2017-2018 Corporate Responsibility

Community Outreach

Engaging in causes that are meaningful to us and our communities has been a long-standing tradition at Newfield. We believe it’s important to give back to the communities where we operate and where our employees live and work. The Company and our employees spend countless hours in support of local charities and events. The Newfield Foundation is the heart of our charitable giving—enabling us to share our success with organizations that make a difference in the local communities.

2018 Charitable Giving Spotlight

Oklahoma: The Toby Keith Foundation was awarded a $50,000 grant in support of the OK Kids Korral, a home for children battling cancer.

Texas: A $30,000 grant went to The Katy Prairie Conservancy to restore the Indiangrass preserve and reestablish once-existing wetlands with a purpose to attract migratory fowl and ducks back to the sanctuary.

Utah: Ashley Valley Food Pantry received a $40,000 grant that will be used to provide food to area families who would otherwise go without.

North Dakota: A $25,000 grant was presented to Dakota Family Solutions whose mission is to strengthen families and individuals in the Williston Basin through a variety of positive and preventative supportive services.

Volunteer Events

Newfield completed and dedicated a Habitat for Humanity home to the Romero family in early 2018. Throughout the build, 42 Newfield volunteers contributed 400 hours of their time to make home ownership a reality for this deserving family.

More than 40 Newfield volunteers put their muscle to work at the Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch Day of Caring—enhancing the Ranch grounds and facilities.

Nearly 300 volunteers met in Myton, Utah for an annual field clean up where they collected 15 tons of trash along roads and highways.

Matching Gifts

We continue to support causes important to our employees with a Matching Gifts program. Matching our employee contributions dollar-for-dollar enables them to double their donations to their favorite charities and shows our support of their cause.

In 2017, we matched nearly $142,000 in donations to charitable organizations. Combined with Foundation grants and university rewards and scholarships, our total charitable giving totaled $1.4 million and supported 214 organizations in 2017.

Newfield matches donations dollar-for-dollar up to $2,500 per person annually. Topping the chart with the highest matched donations in 2017 were Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch, American Red Cross, The Woodlands Christian Academy, American Heart Association and Texas Children’s Hospital.

A Partner in Hurricane Relief

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck the coast of Texas and made a devastating path through numerous communities including Rockport, Victoria and the Houston-Woodlands area. Like so many others in the area, some of our employees were affected by the storm. In the wake of this disaster, we immediately went to work to help our workforce and the local community.

Volunteers assembled with equipment, tools and whatever variety of materials were needed to assist members of our Newfield family with cleanup and construction. Other employees supplied clothing, food and additional provisions required by their impacted colleagues.

A longtime supporter of The American Red Cross, Newfield donated $50,000 to the organization’s Harris and Montgomery chapters as they worked to provide shelter, food and clothing for hundreds of thousands of people impacted by the disaster. In addition to the donation, we established the Newfield Disaster Relief Fund to help with employee recovery efforts after the hurricane and in the event of future disaster events. Newfield again matched employee donations and collected funds totaling more than $120,000, which were distributed to eligible employees in the form of a tax-free grant.
