Newfield Embarks on Second Habitat for Humanity Build This Year
Newfield’s Future Upstream Energy Leaders took the lead to help the local community with a new, Habitat for Humanity build, Saturday, September 30, 2017.
The new structure began to take shape when members of Team Newfield began construction on the roof and frame of the home.
Newfield employees engaged family and friends to assemble at the site and help install trusses, on a two-bedroom home for the Romero family in Conroe, Texas. Twenty-two volunteers put in a total of 132 man hours and worked to bring the Romero’s home a step closer to completion.
A safety meeting started the build day helping to ensure the day progressed smoothly and without incident as the trusses went up. Volunteers also were equipped with new dry-fit shirts to stay cool as they labored throughout the day.
On the importance of volunteering, members of Team Newfield indicated that participation in events like Habitat for Humanity helped to promote camaraderie and teamwork. Habitat builds also provide an opportunity for employees to get know their colleagues from other departments or teams. “I left knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life and it made me proud to work for a company who gives so much back to the community,” one member of Team Newfield said.
Newfield is co-sponsoring the build for the second time with the John Cooper School who provides additional construction support on alternate weekends.
